Etherscan goes down & Blockscout steps up

April started out with a bang πŸ’₯ when Etherscan went down for an extended period on April 4-5. While Etherscan was down on multiple chains, including Ethereum mainnet, Blockscout and other explorers continued to function smoothly, providing crucial service, accessibility and availability for blockchain data.

This incident reinforced the idea that multiple explorers are necessary for every blockchain. While personal preferences and unique features drive daily usage, diversity is absolutely required. Multiple client support (Geth, Nethermind, Besu,Erigon) is a well-established idea, and this philosophy should extend to all blockchain infrastructure. When one service goes down (due to a security issue, or a data center issue, or even censorship), there needs to be redundancy in a decentralized system.

We were happy to provide an explorer for everyone who needed it during this "unscheduled downtime" from Etherscan. The fact that it was not a larger issue speaks to the progress we are making to diversify tooling and provide transparent and robust alternatives to centralized services.

Community Growth

Blockscout keeps growing 🌱, not only in the number of chains using Blockscout but also our expanding community! This month we added a telegram news and community channel to provide updates for telegram users. Please join for the latest updates. We are giving away several Telegram premium subscriptions for new members πŸŽ‰ so join today!

We've also updated the Blockscout webpage and added a new chains-and-projects page. We have a backlog of chains we are adding, and are constantly finding new ones using Blockscout's open-source explorer.

πŸ’‘
If you know of a chain that isn't included on the chains and projects page, please let us know and we'll add it to the site.

Gitcoin Grants

Speaking of community, Gitcoin grants (GG) provides an amazing platform and matching funds for the open-source community. GG has been an important funding source for Blockscout, and Round 20 offers a 300K matching fund for qualified projects. Even small donations go a long way, please consider a donation to Blockscout - we truly value our supporters! The current funding round ends May 7.

GG is one of the best ways to provide high impact with a small donation. Look at the estimated matching funds from a .001 ETH donation!

DAppscout campaigns gaining steam

We're adding new features to the DAppscout marketplace and partnering with DApps to give DAppscout users special perks and points for interactions.

Genome Campaign

Our latest campaign is with Genome, a name service provider for the Gnosis chain. Participate in the Galxe campaign to be whitelisted for a .GNO domain. Participants earn Galxe rewards and are added to the top of the queue for .GNO domain name selection.

BNS Campaign

Earn points and free domains when purchasing a .base name directly in DAppscout on Base! Learn more ⬇️

Exploring the Base Ecosystem with BNS & DAppscout
Register a .base name using Blockscout’s DAppscout and receive 1,000 BNS points for each year of your domain’s registration.

Enhanced Security with SolidityScan

Our latest SolidityScan integration displays security scores for DApps deployed in DAppscout. Smart contracts are analyzed to produce an overall score, providing important information about DApp safety. This feature is currently in beta on the Blockscout Optimism instance.

Partner and Media updates

🌍 Worldcoin

Blockscout was announced as a launch partner for the upcoming Worldcoin chain!

πŸ”₯ Fhenix

The Fhenix chain is using Blockscout to support private, encrypted transactions. Read more about their chain and integration in our blog post.

πŸͺ Cometh

Our integration with Cometh allows for easy anonymous account creation in Blockscout as a step towards more advanced account abstraction methods we'll be adding in the coming year. More on this integration

𝚭 ZetaChain

Swaps on Zeta are easier than ever! We added a swap button to our Zetachain instance which opens the Rubic DEX directly in the Blockscout interface.

β–² Tenderly

Tenderly released a comprehensive report on the current state of optimistic rollups. Blockscout is featured as an essential tool for spinning up and interacting with the rollup ecosystem. Read the report here.

"Optimistic rollups are growing in importance as transaction fees drop on larger rollups and new rollups proliferate throughout the ecosystem. Tools that tie these environments together are absolutely necessary to create cohesion and prevent a fragmented user experience."
- Ulyana Skladchikova, Head of Product at Blockscout

πŸͺ™ Coinbureau

Coinbureau featured Blockscout in a comprehensive article on the future of crytpo. We provided our take on key challenges, upcoming technological advances, incentives and much more. Grab a β˜•οΈ and read the full article here.

🍦Gelato

Gelato continues to innovate and support new chains with their unique RaaS offerings. Their new testnet infrastructure gives chains the opportunity to try different rollup environments for free before selecting the one that suits them best. Developers can start building using one of 3 public testnets, all supported by Blockscout explorers.

Gelato is also rolling out many new chains and Blockscout is supporting these rollup rollouts with dedicated explorer support!
