Rootstock Global Wallet: Phase 1 Now Live

Phase 1 of the Rootstock Global Wallet by Blockscout has been delivered, completing the first milestone funded by the Rootstock Collective DAO.

As part of our WaaS pilot program, this project explores how wallets, explorers, and dapps can work together more closely to reduce friction for new users while providing a consistent experience across a blockchain ecosystem.

Phase 1 introduces the Rootstock Global Wallet as shared ecosystem infrastructure: a standalone smart wallet for users and a white-labeled SDK that allows the same wallet to be embedded across dapps and other ecosystem surfaces.

Brief Background

Rootstock is a Bitcoin Layer 2 sidechain that brings Ethereum's smart contract functionality and EVM compatibility to Bitcoin. Like many ecosystems, it faces a common challenge: new users often struggle with wallet setup, gas, and fragmented onboarding flows before they can meaningfully interact with dapps.

The Rootstock Global Wallet aims to address this by introducing a shared, account-abstracted wallet experience that:

• Works across Rootstock dapps
• Supports modern onboarding methods
• Can be embedded wherever users start their journey

Phase 1 focuses on delivering the foundational infrastructure to make this possible.

What’s in Phase 1

Standalone Rootstock Global Wallet

A standalone Rootstock-branded smart wallet is now available, designed to help users get onchain with minimal friction.

The wallet supports account abstraction and modern authentication flows, removing common barriers such as seed phrase management and upfront gas requirements. Fiat on-ramping is built directly into the wallet, allowing users to acquire assets and start using Rootstock immediately, without relying on external exchanges or complicated bridging setups. 

This standalone interface represents the same wallet experience that will later be accessible across Rootstock dapps and within Blockscout.

Global Wallet SDK

Alongside the standalone wallet, we’ve released a white-labeled SDK, published to the NPM Registry, that allows Rootstock ecosystem teams to integrate the same global wallet experience directly into their applications.

The SDK makes it possible for dapps to:

• Offer wallet onboarding without building custom flows
• Use a consistent Rootstock-wide wallet experience
• Support account abstraction and gas-sponsored transactions
• Embed the wallet wherever users begin interacting with the ecosystem

What’s Next

With Phase 1 complete, the project now moves into Phase 2, which includes:

• Wallet login directly inside the Rootstock Blockscout explorer
• Integrations with Rootstock ecosystem dapps
• Tracking usage and retention over time to inform future decisions
