Merits Ripple Through the XRPL EVM Sidechain

The XRP Ledger (XRPL) is one of the most established blockchains in the space: fast, efficient, and trusted for real-world payments and asset transfers. And now, with the XRPL Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) live together with the block explorer, it’s stepping into a whole new world: programmable smart contracts, Solidity development, and multichain interoperability.

To mark the moment, we’re launching the first-ever Blockscout Merits campaign on XRPL, giving users the chance to explore with purpose, try out key tools, and earn Merits + an exclusive XRPL NFT badge along the way.

Let’s walk through how it works.

First Off: What is XRPL?

XRPL is a decentralized, open-source blockchain built for speed, low fees, and energy efficiency. Since 2012, it has served as a backbone for cross-border payments, asset tokenization, and decentralized finance.

Transactions settle in 3 to 5 seconds and cost less than a cent, making XRPL ideal for micro-transactions and high-frequency activity. Its unique consensus algorithm keeps it lightweight and eco-friendly without relying on mining.

XRPL also includes a built-in DEX for atomic swaps and token issuance, along with a multi-currency payment system that enables real-time global transfers.

The new XRPL EVM sidechain adds Ethereum compatibility to the mix. You can now deploy Solidity-based dapps using familiar tools like MetaMask, Hardhat, and Truffle while benefiting from XRPL’s speed and affordability.

The sidechain also integrates with bridging protocols like Axelar, allowing for cross-chain asset movement and broader composability with other EVM networks.

This Merits campaign is designed to help you get started on the new XRPL EVM sidechain by walking you through basic actions: bridging assets, interacting onchain, and improving wallet safety. All using trusted tools from the ecosystem including the XRPL block explorer.

Whether you're testing the waters or building something bigger, it’s a simple way to explore what’s possible.

The XRPL Merits Campaign

This campaign runs until the 24th of August, and rewards you for exploring XRPL the right way, by using trusted tools to bridge and interact onchain.

You’ll complete 2 key actions:

1. Bridge assets with Gas.zip
2. Check in with a daily “GM” via OnchainGM

You will earn Merits on the way, and completing the full set unlocks a limited-edition XRPL NFT badge.

Getting Started

Here’s what you need to know before diving in:

• If you haven't already, sign up to Merits
• Use the XRPL Blockscout Explorer for all tasks
• Use the same wallet for every step - required for accurate snapshots

Step 1: Bridge with Gas.zip

First things first, you’ll need assets on the XRPL EVM sidechain.
That’s where Gas.zip comes in.

Use it to bridge assets to XRPL, and test out how easy cross-chain transfers can be.

✍️ What to do: Use the bridge to transfer assets
🏆 Reward: Daily share of a Merits pool, based on your bridge volume and total user activity. A total of 1,000 Merits are split across all participants during the campaign.
🎯 Badge Requirement: Complete at least 2 bridge interactions

Step 2: Post Your GM with OnchainGM

Once your wallet’s ready, it’s time to check in.

With OnchainGM, you can send a simple “GM” onchain. It’s quick, social, and adds a little personality to your onchain presence.

🎯 Badge Requirement: Post a GM on at least 10 separate days
