Building the L2 Transparency Layer
The L2 landscape has never been bigger...or messier. L2Beat currently tracks 149 scaling projects. The Ethereum Foundation just published a major update to the L1↔L2 relationship model, envisioning the role of L2s as chains designed to extend Ethereum's core properties, delivering new features and customized blockchain experiences, while maintaining transparency and security. At EthCC in Cannes last week, the new Ethereum Economic Zone framework was announced, designed to tackle the fragmentation problem across 20+ operational L2s safeguarding ~$40B in isolated pools.
Support for transparency and chain customizations across layers starts with the block explorer, the tool that makes onchain activity verifiable by anyone.
Moving forward, we need explorers that support custom L2s and their unique features as well as advanced interoperability with the Ethereum base layer. Fortunately, Blockscout is ready to go and already deeply integrated.
To get a sense of explorer adoption in the L2 space, we fetched all 149 projects from L2Beat and checked their explorer infrastructure. The results are striking.
67% of L2 projects with a live explorer run Blockscout. That's 94 chains. Etherscan covers 16. Routescan covers 7.

Of those 94 Blockscout-powered chains, 84 run it exclusively. The chains that do run Etherscan (Arbitrum, Base, OP Mainnet, Unichain, Linea, Celo, World Chain) almost all run Blockscout alongside it, and Blockscout provides free tier API access for several where Etherscan does not support free API access (Base, OP). Only 7 projects across the entire L2 landscape rely on Etherscan alone.

Ink, Soneium, Scroll, Immutable, MegaETH and many more emerging chains trust Blockscout exclusively for their explorer infrastructure. Blockscout is providing the transparency layer for two-thirds of all L2s, and that number keeps growing.

PRO API + Talent Protocol
Talent Protocol builders can now get free access to the Blockscout PRO API Builder plan for 2 months. That means multichain access through one API account, higher rate limits, and the same production-grade data that powers 94+ explorers.
If you've been hitting limits on free tiers elsewhere, this is your on-ramp.

Blockscout on Base
A recent Reddit post on r/Base is getting attention for breaking down why Base builders are turning to Blockscout. The core issue: Etherscan dropped free-tier API support for several major chains including Base, leaving developers scrambling. Blockscout's free API covers Base (and dozens of other chains) with no surprise cutoffs.
If you're building on Base and need reliable data access, the Blockscout Base explorer and PRO API have you covered.
First stop for blockchain agents
If you've got agents doing work onchain, head over to the Blockscout AI Skills Portal to get them skilled up fast. The portal provides copy-paste instructions for Claude Code, Codex, Gemini, and Claude Desktop — giving your agents access to structured data from 100+ chains via Blockscout MCP.
Real-time blockchain data. No custom integration required.
